When I started out as a Spiritual worker I expected too much, I expected others to be more Spiritual than ordinary people and I expected the same of myself. I quickly came to realise that the only thing we can be is human because that is what we are.
Most Spiritual workers you will meet are down-to-earth and unpretentious, working to bring comfort and hope to as many people as possible. However, there is a small faction who bring a whole new meaning to the word confusion, and this article grew from yet another experience of that confusion.
It was inspired by a friend who met another Medium who told them that they worked ‘on a higher vibration’. This caused quite a bit of online hilarity and generated an interesting discussion as to what that could possibly mean.
For most working Mediums we open our minds and hearts to our Spirit communicators and do our utmost to repeat accurately the information that we receive, and that’s it. We don’t think about vibrations or their height.
In fact my Guide Amos is generally amused at the need for human beings to classify the Spirit World in terms of up or down, above or below, more or less powerful.
None of my Guides have ever talked in those terms and one once showed me an image of a world of layers that was rather like the work of M C Escher, where you go up or down only to arrive on the same level.
I’m lucky enough to have several Guides helping me out with different aspects of my work; they all step back and let each other do their own thing. For example, if I ask Amos for healing he usually says just two words “White Cloud” and then sends me a bolt of love.
The other interesting discussion in my corner of the field this week (the one where chocolate is grown J) was about the need of Spiritual workers, particularly Mediums, to try to explain the unknowable.
Several of us felt that we don’t know how the Spirit World works and we don’t remember where we came from and what it’s like over there.
We only know that we are Mediums, the Spirit World can communicate with us and we’re grateful that they do. We’re humbled to be Mediums and we just try to do the best work we can at all times. Beyond that we admit that we have no definitive answers.
We also concluded that it doesn’t worry us. We trust the Spirit World completely because they’ve proved their existence to us time and again, and as long as we can keep doing our work that’s good enough for us.
Of course I wonder about certain things that others believe, for example some people have been told that there is a world between this one and the next and you don’t go straight to the Spirit World yet my Guides don’t speak in those terms.
What I’ve learned though is not to get too hooked up in the details. Here is my personal take on why.
When you’re concentrating on the details you aren’t concentrating on the work you need to do in the here and now.
I feel that there might be different Spirit Worlds or aspects of the Spirit World, therefore I accept all answers I’m given as valid for that person and their Guide but it doesn’t mean that I have to take it on board.
After all, there are many universes, many planets, many worlds, and in our world there are many countries. In those countries are different areas and in those different areas life is lived...well differently (compare Moscow to the Russian Steppes).
If you asked a person from the Russian Steppes about life they would give you a totally different answer from someone who lived in London or New York, Paris or Rome.
If you asked someone from Rome, surrounded as they are by antiquity and history, their answer would be entirely different from someone born and bred in New York, and so on. Yet all answers would be true and all answers given would be about the same world.
In our many world societies we deal with the same situation entirely differently. In the UK we imprison murderers, in some areas of America they have capital punishment, in other countries capital punishment is the norm, and so it goes on.
If people from those areas were Guides then they would give you entirely different opinions of what happens ‘over there’.
My other conclusion is that we forget our lives in the Spirit World for one very good reason – it would be too dispiriting to remember it.
Many people report a feeling of not belonging here or of always seeking the next place where they might feel at home, and I myself occasionally feel all those things.
It’s my personal belief that this is because I’m separated from my true home, and I’m not sure that remembering how amazing it is would have helped me to settle over here. In fact I think that wouldn’t have been possible. So I accept my forgetfulness and my inability to answer some questions as necessary for my emotional wellbeing.
At the end of the day you will hear many different things from many different people; all you can do is to listen to everything you’re told and weigh it against your own gut reaction to see if it feels right to you. If it doesn’t respect their truth and move on.
If you go to the British Museum Library and turn around once you will see how many books there are and therefore how much we don’t know about this world let alone the next, or previous and future - wherever the Spirit World lies in the true time continuum.
It is more important to walk this path in your own way, living by your own discoveries and building your own understanding of “life, the universe and everything”, just like that peasant on the Russian Steppes, the Roman culture-vulture or the New Yorker with their fresh new history in the making.
Some people don’t even think about the Spirit World yet they live truly inspirational and productive lives which shows that is not necessary to understand, it is only necessary to trust and to navigate this life with as much kindness and honesty as you possibly can.
As Mediums, the proof we can provide will lie in how much we convince those who ask for our services. If, as a team but in our own way, we continue to build on that proof then the truth will gradually be understood and the Spirit World will reveal more information as we’re ready for it, as it has been doing in different ways for thousands of years.
Virtually all the information we have in this field comes from individual experiences of working with the Spirit World and with Guides, Angels and other helpers. As with all types of communication the information received is processed through the understanding of the person receiving it, and subject to their own life values and beliefs.
That is why I’ve told you honestly that I don’t know everything there is to know about everything that matters and I don’t feel in the least diminished as a person or in my work for saying that.
