Many people go for Readings with different types of Readers hoping that they will come away with exact predictions of the future and a cast iron guarantee that it will all be great.
Some people have very good Readings that they’re happy with, go home and it all comes true. Others don’t get their expected outcomes and they feel let down and disappointed. Some will go and get another Reading and another Reading, and so on, and others will feel so demoralised that they won’t bother to see another Reader of any kind ever again; which is a great shame.
Taking off my Medium’s hat and putting on my Life Coaching one, neither reaction makes a great deal of sense to me. For one thing, whether the content comes through a Medium or Psychic, in divination cards, or from an Astrologer who is scientifically looking at the positions of the planets in a birth chart, the only information that can be provided is the information available at that time.
Then we have emotions. People invest a great deal of emotion into a Reading. They go in hopeful, sometimes with an agenda that they may not even be aware of. If they have a known agenda the Reader won’t be able to put that information into a Reading if it isn’t there, and if they have a subconscious agenda then they may feel that the
Reading was good but not quite what they’d hoped for without really knowing why; this is how the compulsive re-Reading loop can begin.
If a Reading does say everything that the client hopes then obviously it is a brilliant Reading, but if it doesn’t that’s when the wheels come off the trolley. Yet a Reading that doesn’t say what the client wants can sometimes be the best piece of advice the client could receive at that time. Surely it’s better to know what is in the stars, coming through from the Spirit World, or appearing in the cards, than it is to be hoping for something that isn’t going to happen (yet). What is there may not be what the client wanted, but it remove blocks thereby helping them to prepare properly for what comes next and be ready to embrace it and make the best of it.
Sometimes you can get what you want in life but be so unprepared, so un-ready for it that you subconsciously mess it up.
Clients may not realise it but they are the key to getting the best from a Reading.
When people go for Readings they invest everything in the Reader. The Reader will Read brilliantly; they will see exactly what the client requires in the Reading and say precisely and only that; everything the client thinks they want will be right. Clients often fail to realise that the success or failure of a Reading largely depends on what they do next. Let’s face it, who really wants someone else in the driving seat no matter how gifted or accurate they may be? We all want to be the captain of our own ship, the driver of our own car, or the cool guy at the front of the Jumbo Jet. Whether you like it or not the only person in the driving seat of your life is you, and the captain of your ship is your mind.
As the Emperor Marcus Aurelius said in the 1st Century AD “Your life is what your thoughts make it.” Yet it is easy to forget how important every thought that goes through your mind is; even if your thoughts feel like so much background noise every thought you have is creating your life in the present and setting up your future.
Some people are very good at thinking, some are very good at taking action, and some sit and wait for everything the Reader said to be delivered to their doorstep by some sort of (non-existent) universal door-to-door salesperson. The people who find life easier are, of course, those who think and then act or act whilst they’re thinking, it doesn’t really matter which as long as you’re capable of thinking on your feet if you fall into the second category. The most disappointed people in life are those who sit and wait, because the old axiom “everything comes to those who wait” very often isn’t true.
So if you go for a Reading there will be an emotional reaction to that Reading and that emotion will translate itself into conscious and subconscious thoughts that you need to translate into action; starting by controlling and directing those thoughts onto a positive path.
So, you’ve been for a Reading and you’ve heard what you’ve heard, and you’re happy! The Reading is exactly what you wanted to hear and everything is going to be fabulous. The world will take on a warm pink glow and your days will be blessed with unending joy and abundance. You’ve accepted the Reading. You’ve still got to go out there and make it happen, actually and emotionally.
I once did a Reading for a client who had been promised that the ‘right person’ was coming along in no less than 8 previous Readings over an 8 year period. When I finished the Reading the client said something along the lines of “each time I’ve had a Reading over the last 8 years I’ve been promised that the right person is coming along. They’ve been independently wealthy, a fireman, a builder, a businessman...etc. Yet they’ve never turned up and your Reading didn’t even mention love.”
I looked at the cards again and there wasn’t one single romance card in the Reading so I asked my Guide to explain. He said “look at those two cards” and I could see it. The person had two serious issues around relationships that needed dealing with otherwise they themselves would never be able to accept love and affection. I tuned in psychically and asked for some information. I discovered that the client believed that every time they got close to a person of the opposite sex that person would start to pull away after 3 months, but actually it was my client who was pulling away because of the issues that needed resolving. The client agreed that this was true and that resolutions needed to be found before romance was a possibility.
The key point of this story isn’t that I was right and the other Readers were wrong, if the other Tarot Readings indicated romance then that romance was in the offing, it’s as simple as that, the stumbling block was the client’s beliefs.
I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately around the subject of the mind and how our thoughts really do create our lives and affect everything in our lives, and it has made me realise how critical it is that clients take a strong and proactive role in their own Readings. Here are some pointers for you the client. Even if the Reader records the Reading for you take a notepad and pen and capture the important points. You will receive a lot of information so be certain that you understand the nuances of the Reading. This Reading is going to guide your life in the near future and you need to be sure that you understand the messages.
Don’t make a Reading the only form of guidance and advice that you seek. The beauty of Astrological or Psychic Readings is that they look at your life in a fresh and intuitive way that allows you to flow outside the rigid rules that we sometimes impose on ourselves, or were imposed on us during childhood, and look at your full potential and possibilities. Once you know what you could be capable of then seek other people to help you reach that point.
A Life Coach can be helpful with goal identification and setting, and then being there to remind you to turn those goals into reality, other professionals such as profilers will help you to work out what career you’re best suited to; Estate Agents will help you find a better home, etc.
Even if you feel that your full potential doesn’t appear in a Reading don’t worry, we are always work in progress and if we’re willing to do the work and take the action then the potential cannot fail to manifest.
When a Reading disappoints don’t be downhearted, look instead for the messages that will be there to help set you up for the future. You can’t have what isn’t ready to manifest yet, but you can be ready for whatever it is when it leaps into your reality. Sometimes you need to be ready for the fabulous things so you don’t drop the ball in sheer shock at your good fortune!
Be mindful. As of now stop wandering through your life in a daze, seeking help and then hoping that something good will come of it. Start noticing your life, listening to the people around you, buy books, read magazines, surf the net for real information rather than funny jokes and bargains. Be alert.
Do a vision board. For those who may not know what this is, you have to work out exactly what you want from your life with no holds barred, and then find photographs and make up sayings. Then you stick all this on a board and hang it up where you can see it. The trick to vision boarding is to avoid what Mike Dooley (www.tut.com) calls ‘the cursed hows’. If you want a five bedroom house, a Porsche and seven foreign holidays a year don’t worry about how that will come about or where the money will come from, just be clear that this is what you want and stick it on that vision board. Clearly stating your genuine desires will make that mind of yours start creating the right thoughts, and those thoughts will translate themselves into the right actions to turn your visions into reality. For more information on vision boarding read ‘The Secret’, buy the DVD of the same name, or visit www.tut.com.
As to you the Reader, if you’re an experienced Reader you’ve probably been nodding all the way through this article. If, however, you’re new to the whole field then I hope that this article has made you realise in your heart that no matter how good you are in the future, how hard you work, how desperately you try, if the client doesn’t want to hear or they want to translate the Reading completely differently to the way you gave it, then there isn’t a single thing you can do about it. I hope also that it will help to give you the confidence to say what you see or receive and trust that it is right at the time. Then move on, do more Readings, and accept the successes when you get them.
Our work is far too important to be beaten by those who aren’t ready to accept their personal power, step into it and use it to translate guidance into action.
