Musings of a Happy Medium

Sometimes things just occur to you...
Only thoughts
Many people like to think about things and enjoy lively discussion, I'm one of them. However, I don't think that my ideas
are definitive and they're certainly not law, so if you disagree just ignore me. I hope some of you find the thoughts valuable
though.
Mind, Body, Spirit
It is often suggested that the term "Mind, Body, Spirit" is now an overused cliché, but I believe that like most
clichés it's true. We are mind, body and spirit. It isn't just a banner you hang up over the doorway to an event.
God
I don't believe that God is a man with a long white beard, that image was taken from the statue of Zeus as worshipped by the
ancient Greeks. I do, however, believe in a strong, wise, loving, protective, magnificent universal power. The name for
this power seems to have become almost a politically correct issues. You hear it referred to as "God", "Great
Spirit", "Father Mother God", "Universal Consciousness" and so on. For me God is a three letter
word that I can spell, and let's face it, if this power should turn out to be a loving father or mother figure does it matter?
We need someone or something that understands us - because we sure as heck don't understand each other a lot of the time!
Death and dying
I sometimes get asked not to talk about my work because I work with death. I admit that I do forget because the people in
the Spirit World feel as alive to me as you do. However, there is a benefit to that. Bereavement is a horrible subject and
sometimes you just want to talk to someone but you don't feel the need for counselling. By virtue of our calling Mediums
are comfortable with the subject of bereavement and you can always contact me if you just need someone to talk to.
Natural or what?
I get fed up with the terms 'natural Medium/Psychic'. These abilities are perfectly natural in everyone, they're part of
who we are, it's just that some people can tap into these abilities and some don't know that they can.
Strong, stronger, strongest...or teacher's pet?
I get equally frustrated when I hear "oh he/she's such a strong Medium/Psychic". There is no way to measure the
'power' of one Medium or Psychic against another. Anyone working in this field will tell you that there are good days and
bad days, highs and lows, and that the only true power lies with the universe. So don't feel stupid when you aren't singled
out as strong and powerful, just keep on working for spirit and remember - practice makes perfect...well better...on a good
day!
To train or not to train - that is the question
In this day and age great store is set by qualifications, but there is no way that a Medium or Psychic can officially qualify.
However, I do believe in training. Our abilities are natural, but there is much to be gained by learning from people who
have been working successfully for many years. I have been taught by many such tutors and the experience as been invaluable.
I train with, and unhesitatingly recommend a group called The Avalon Project. Contact me for further information.
Spirituality - Religion or Philosophy?
Whilst I have nothing but respect for spiritual churches and have often found comfort inside the walls of a church, for me
spirituality is a way of life, a philosophy. It belongs everywhere you are and in everything you do. You don't have to give
up work to be spiritual. You don't have to wear pink or purple to be spiritual. There is no uniform, no creed, no qualification,
it belongs everywhere and in everything. It 'just is'.
What makes a good reading?
In a word 'enthusiasm'. You should never tell a Medium anything but that doesn't mean that you have to sit and grunt in a
noncommittal manner. If we're right tell us, if we're wrong tell us, if you need more information say so. The no's are equally
as important as the yes's because it may be that we've misunderstood and we can go back and ask again. Sometimes a client
will honestly believe that the Medium is wrong, yet when they go back and ask their family they find out that the information
is correct. What greater proof can there be than being told something that you yourself did not know? So welcome the reading,
be positive, just don't give us information before or during the reading.
Should a Medium ask questions?
No we shouldn't but you try having a conversation with someone and not asking questions, especially if you suddenly get a
picture of an egg whisk and a rabbit in your mind! We do forget ourselves sometimes, especially in the middle of really interesting
or difficult message, we're only human. However, the vast majority of what we say should come under the heading of 'definite
statements'. Remember also that the question "who has your grandmother's sapphire ring?" may be a question, but
it indicates that we know that your grandmother had such a ring and someone in the family has it now. However, if you come
across a Medium who does nothing but ask questions you should seriously consider seeing someone else - and not answering the
questions!
